We are excited to announce that the National Parkinson Foundation has awarded PD Gladiators $15,000 from its Community Grants Program to fund five new general fitness group exercise classes for people with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners, three new specialty fitness classes (like pilates, tai chi, and yoga) and promotion of the PD Gladiators Metro Atlanta Fitness Network. In addition, the Livramento Delgado Boxing Foundation, which operates the PD Gladiators Boxing Training Program for PD, was awarded a $5,000 grant to purchase new equipment that will support the expansion of the program. Many thanks to the NPF for their generosity and confidence in us to execute this ambitious program! We are proud to have their support.
The NPF announced the availability of $50,000 for projects in the Atlanta metro area in April. NPF’s first ever Moving Day Atlanta walk was held in November 2013, and a portion of the proceeds raised was directed to be distributed directly to the community for programs and classes tailored for those living with PD and their caregivers. Such programs can encompass a variety of exercise and movement classes, music, dance, art, and alternative therapies. Moving Day Atlanta will be held again this year, on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 9am, in Centennial Olympic Park. Visit www.MovingDayAtlanta.org for more information. Come back and sponsor the PD Gladiators team for the Moving Day Walk later this summer!
