Domino is a small, flat rectangular block used as a gaming object. It is also known as a bone, a piece, or a menor (Spanish for “little domino”). These are just some of the names that the little white and black pieces, usually with a number of dots on one side, are called by. In some cultures, dominoes are used to build structures and create artworks. Dominoes are popular as a game, for educational purposes, and in therapy. They are often arranged into complex designs, such as 3-D structures and curved lines or grids that form pictures when they fall. These constructions are called domino art. They can be made as simple or as elaborate as the creator desires, and the more complex the design, the more difficult it is to make it work.
Domino’s power to bring luck to those around her was first demonstrated in Civil War: X-men #1 when she triggered lightning that struck two Sentinels. This ability is a subconscious talent that can only be activated by engaging in an action that relies on luck, such as fighting or escaping. She has been able to consciously control this luck ability in the past, but it is still largely uncontrolled.
During the 2004 Domino’s crisis, which saw the pizza company in massive debt, the CEO was replaced with an outsider, whose leadership style was not a good fit for the company. Despite attempts to introduce new products and revamp the company’s image, the damage was already done.
A domino effect is any sequence of events that cause other actions to follow, similar to the way a single domino can set off a series of chains that eventually lead to their own collapse. In fiction, the domino effect is often used as a metaphor for the impact of a character’s actions on those around them.
The word domino is derived from Latin, meaning “lord, master.” Dominoes are often set up in elaborate displays with hundreds or even thousands of pieces laid edge to edge, all of them toppling with the slightest nudge from just one. These types of shows are often performed before a live audience.
Domino’s powers are based on an innate talent to attract and manipulate luck. Whenever she puts herself in a situation where her luck can be influenced, it will be. This is why she was able to stop the criminals Spiral, Chimera and Lady Deathstrike from capturing her fellow X-Force member Milo Thurman. In doing so, she saved him from being digitized and uploaded into a computer. This was an event that would ultimately cost Thurman his life.
