How to Win at Roulette

Roulette is a classic casino game found in every casino on the planet. It’s a fast and fun game that offers many betting options to make it appealing for both novice and experienced players alike. But how can you win at this game that relies so heavily on luck? Luckily, there are a few key things to keep in mind.

The game consists of a table and a revolving wheel with numbered holes in it. Players place bets on the hole in which they think the ball will land, with the house edge depending on the type of bet made. There are several different types of bets, with some requiring more skill than others to place. In addition, the number of chips a player wagers can also affect the outcome of the game.

Inside bets place a player’s chips on the numbered portion of the table, whereas outside bets place them on a category of numbers (called propositions) rather than specific ones. The house edge of these bets is higher than the house edge of inside bets, but they offer a greater payout if won.

A player can place a Straight Bet, Split Bet, Street Bet, or Six Number Bet. The Straight Bet places a chip(s) on the outer border of a row of three consecutive numbers on the layout. This bet pays out 11-1 if won. The Street Bet, or “transversal” in French, places a chip(s) to straddle the line between two adjacent numbers on the layout. This bet pays 17-1 if won. The Six Number Bet, or “sixain” in French, places a chip(s) on the outside border of two rows of three consecutive numbers. This bet pays out 5-1 if won.

After all bets are placed, the croupier spins the wheel in one direction and then rolls a small ball around it in the opposite direction. The croupier then announces, “no more bets!” and the players watch as the ball bounces around the wheel and eventually settles into one of the compartments that marks a particular number on the Roulette table (or layout).
