ATLANTA – Effective September 1, the Georgia Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association awarded PD Gladiators a $10,000 program grant to support the PD Gladiators Metro Atlanta Fitness Network. The network offers 50 weekly group exercise classes adapted for people with Parkinson’s disease throughout the Atlanta metro area and includes the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, Livramento Delgado Boxing Foundation, Yellow River Center, and other independent fitness instructors.
“The APDA Georgia Chapter is pleased to support the tremendous work of the Metro Atlanta Fitness Network in bringing exercise options of all types to the Parkinson’s community,” said Chapter President Eric Burkard.
“We are grateful for the continued support of the APDA,” said Larry Kahn, CEO of PD Gladiators. “The Georgia Chapter’s grant will make it possible to continue to offer a variety of classes at low cost to people with PD.”
In addition to funding, in part, the PD Gladiators Metro Atlanta Fitness Network, the APDA’s Georgia Chapter provides Information & Referral Services, a monthly educational meeting at the Clairmont Oaks in Decatur, a network of support groups throughout Georgia, and transportation assistance, among other resources for the Parkinson’s community.
